Deborah "Misty" Gerner (1956-2006)
Dr. Deborah (Misty) Gerner died Monday, June 19, 2006 at her home after a long illness. A graduate of Earlham College, with her master’s and doctoral degrees from Northwestern University, she was a professor of political science at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She was an expert on the Arab-Israeli conflict and Palestinian nationalism, and most recently completed field work in Israel, Palestine and Gaza in January 2006 as a part of this project. Misty’s contributions to this research, both in its conception and progress to date, have been invaluable. Our research team joins with her spouse and collaborator, Philip Schrodt, in mourning her loss. Misty not only inspired this research project, she also inspired us and all of the graduate and undergraduate students who are part of this enterprise.
